Patanjali Foods shares fall 17% as 1.5% equity worth Rs 195 crore changes hands

Shares of Patanjali Foods plunged 18% on July 15 to hit 52-week low after 1.5% equity worth Rs 195 crore changed hands.

 

At 12 pm on July 25, Patanjali Foods shares were trading 17% lower at Rs 337.6 apiece, thus extending losses for third straight session. The 52-week low of the stock is Rs 328.2 and 52-week high is Rs 653.93. However, the shares recovered a little and closed nearly 15% lower.

 

The stock’s decline was accompanied by exceptionally heavy trading volume, with over 2.3 crore shares changing hands against a 20-day average of around 25 lakh shares, alongside a sharp spike in delivery volumes, pointing to sizeable institutional activity rather than pure intraday churn.

 

The company’s business is doing well and its balance sheet is robust, Sanjeev Asthana, the company’s chief executive officer, told CNBC-TV18 in an interview. There is no change in the company’s business objectives, he had said.

 

The promoter and promoter group members of the company owned 68.25% stake in the company as of Jun 30. Among other major shareholders, Life Insurance Corp. of India held 9.13% stake, GQG Partners Emerging Markets Equity Fund 2.89%, and Jainam Broking 1.27%.

 

Bloomberg data showed Patanjali Foods shares have fallen 27% over the past 52 weeks. The benchmark index Sensex has declined 6.3% over the same period.

 

The stock is down 3.5% over the past five trading sessions and has lost 7.2% over the past 30 days, according to Bloomberg data.

 

Bloomberg data showed the stock trades at 25 times estimated earnings for the next 12 months and 24 times trailing earnings. It is valued at 3.3 times book value.

 

The company’s trailing 12-month dividend yield stands at 1.1%.

 

Incorporated in 1986, Patanjali Foods Limited is one of the leading edible oil companies in the country. The company operates in the Edible Oils, FMCG, and Wind Power Generation segments. It sells products under different brands like Patanjali, Ruchi Gold, Nutrela, Dant Kanti, Mahakosh, Sunrich, etc.

 

Regarding the stock movement, Patanjali Foods said, “With reference to the significant movement in the price of the Company’s equity shares, we wish to clarify that the Company continues to remain focused on its growth path and is carrying on its business operations in the ordinary course, while pursuing its business objectives. To the best of the knowledge of the management, there are presently no material events, information or circumstances requiring disclosure to the Stock Exchanges.”

 

Patanjali Foods had reported a 46% increase in its consolidated net profit to Rs 523.97 crore for the quarter ended March on higher income from sale of cooking oils and other food items.

 

Its net profit stood at Rs 358.51 crore in the year-ago period.

 

Total income rose to Rs 11,212.17 crore during the January-March period of 2025-26 fiscal from Rs 9,564.47 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding year, according to a regulatory filing.

 

During 2025-26 fiscal, the company’s net profit grew to Rs 1,814.47 crore from Rs 1,300.70 crore in the preceding year.

 

Total income climbed to Rs 40,347.78 crore last fiscal from Rs 33,890.68 crore in the 2024-25 financial year.
